Space… Cold, dark, unknown and incredibly attractive. He has always attracted people to him, since ancient times. And now, after millennia, people finally slowly, with small but confident steps, began to conquer it. But if progress does not allow one to keep up with the human dream so quickly, the power of human imagination, supported by cinema, comes into force. "Star wars", "Star Trek", "Space Odyssey", "Firefly" and many other representatives of this genre of cinema influenced people so much that, I am sure, most of them from childhood dreamed of going into the abyss of space, sitting at the helm of their own spaceship and going to some far, far away galaxy in search of adventure.
Years later, the gaming industry joined the cinema, which, in an effort to help people make their dreams come true, was replenished with various kinds of space simulators or other games on this topic. Wing Commander, Space Rangers, Chronicles of Tarr, Freelancer, X3, Elite – the names of these games alone will make people succumb to the nostalgia of dreaming about the stars. Even now the industry is trying to satisfy this need for the stars and space, and has given us a very hardcore, even "elitist" Elite:Dangerous, and in the future it threatens to devour all our free time with a truly epic Star Citizen, the expectation of which is proportional to the money spent on it. But today we will not talk about them, but about one small, but extremely huge toy, which your humble servant, that is, I, learned about purely by accident, having stumbled upon it in the Steam feed, and most of you probably didn’t even notice it, and are learning about it only now. So fasten your seatbelts, engines full throttle! I ask you to love and favor – Rebel Galaxy.
What is it Rebel Galaxy? Rebel Galaxy is a kind of Space Simulator. Although no, it would be more accurate to say Spaceship Simulator. And this is important to understand, because if you are an ardent fan of such “titans” of this genre as Freelancer, X3, Elite, then you will be disappointed. Why? Because this game is not hardcore, not super-realistic, physical and the like. The game is more like Space Rangers, and, oddly enough, Corsairs, Sid Meier’s Pirates, or, if you didn’t catch these projects, on Assassin’s Creed 4: The Black Flag(meaning its naval part), namely by the fact that our ship moves only along one plane – forward, backward, left, right. No climbs, steep pirouettes, barrel rolls, flying under ships, etc. The height parameter is not taken into account in the game. Unless various small, nimble fighters can fly as they please, but consider them ships in Rebel Galaxy tongue won’t turn. Fighters are so – consumables that we will never change to.
Our choice is precisely spaceships – small “destroyers”, “cruisers”, “battleships”: a little clumsy, not so maneuverable, but carrying a decent supply of weapons and, with the right command, capable of destroying more than a dozen ships in one battle. They are armed with several types of weapons, such as automatic turrets, side cannons, rocket cannons, laser cannons, and for protection they use shields, damage absorbers and maneuverable engines. Turrets automatically target enemies, but if you want, you can switch to one of them and shoot yourself while controlling the ship. With onboard guns it’s more difficult – to aim, you need to turn the side towards the target, wait for guidance and target acquisition, approach the required distance and only then shoot. Moreover, not forgetting at this time to monitor the shields of your ship, which will be fired upon by enemies. Each such battle is a short, but incredibly intense battle, in which everything is decided by the skill of controlling the ship – exposing the strongest sides to shots, accurate salvoes, timely activated damage absorption – all this determines the success of controlling our ship.
And we’ll spend the entire https://casinomerlincasino.co.uk/ game driving these ships. At the beginning of the game we are given a rather old, slow, not the most powerful ship under the proud name “RASPUTIN”, on which we will earn our first money. And from now on, nothing limits you. Although I’m lying, it limits the plot. Until you complete some of the story missions in the first system, you will not get out of it. And if you think that after some time, because of this limitation, all activities, quests and events in the system will end, then I will disappoint you. Quests, events, etc. in the game are randomly generated.
And the further you go, the more, more difficult and more expensive all these tasks will be – resource extraction, trade between stations, hunting for pirates, treasure hunting, protecting peaceful ships, war, rescue missions, and so on. It is necessary, even necessary, to complete all these tasks – this is your main income. All your money will be spent regularly – for repairs, the purchase of new equipment, modules, ships, the purchase of mercenary guards, goods and other things. And the further you go, the more expensive everything will be, but space is by no means a safe place. The cosmos evolves with you. Pirates unite into larger groups, become stronger and stronger, missions become more difficult and dangerous. And in such situations, you cannot survive without a properly equipped ship. And it costs a lot of money. And if it becomes absolutely impossible, you can hire a mercenary – who, for a fee, will accompany you in the current system until he dies. A similar system was in the domestic game "Star Wolves", where we hired special mercenary units to protect us as we moved around the system.
And all this can be done ad infinitum, as in the same Space Rangers, where the plot developed somewhere out there, in distant sectors, where there was a war with the Klisans or Dominators, and no one was rushing you, you were completely free in your actions and decisions. You had only one global goal – to destroy the threat that came from the Klisan / Dominators, and how, when you did this, did not matter. IN Rebel Galaxy the situation is similar, except that instead of one global goal, there is a certain story. A message came from your aunt asking for help, and you decided to find her. Having started the search, having worked a little for various greedy alien personalities, our hero becomes the owner of a certain strange artifact that moves into our ship and becomes our, so to speak, companion. The Artifact contains the soul of a certain creature with amnesia, and our task is to search for information about it in order to understand what you are faced with. All this is just a saying that starts in the INITIAL system, and after that it will make you fly around the entire sector, which contains about one and a half dozen different systems with their enemies, aliens, events and adventures. And given the generation of everything and everyone, each system will keep you from flying to another for a very long time.
Now let’s talk about the visual and sound design of the game. After all, if the game does not look, say, beautiful, it will not be able to retain the modern player. But with this Rebel Galaxy also in perfect order. The game doesn’t have enough stars in the sky, it doesn’t have incredible realism in millions of details, like in Elite: Dangerous. The game is just very beautiful. Space is great. I want to screenshot the views of the systems here and put them on my desktop, they are so good. The ships can also boast of pretty good design of their appearance and individual modules. In other words, the game looks nice and beautiful.
And what I want to give the developers a standing ovation for is the fact that instead of some epic, pathetic, majestic cosmic soundtrack, they used… country rock! And thanks to this, Rebel Galaxy captivates literally from the first trailer, from the first seconds even in the game menu itself. The selected compositions are simply, dare I say it, brilliant. Adrenaline, aggressive, dynamic, invigorating, atmospheric. They amazingly convey the atmosphere of the Wild West, and, oddly enough, the atmosphere of an amazing series "FireFly"(Firefly). You feel like you’re not in a space game, but in some kind of Western. Space Western. Unfortunately, there are not very many compositions and in a couple of hours you will already hear all of them, but they will still bring the desired effect.
But, unfortunately, this game cannot be recommended to everyone. If you like games that are more meaningful and focused, where you can clearly see the plot, the story, where you don’t have to travel often in search of profit, and you just don’t like sandboxes like that, then Rebel Galaxy you won’t like it. Still, most of the game lies in this very romance of space, in the exploration of new systems, slow but sure earnings as an ordinary adventurer and simply the search for adventures in one place.
In the end, Rebel Galaxy a very worthy project in the genre of single-player space simulator, of which there are not very many now. It’s interesting, fun, not overly complicated, easy to learn, varied, and can captivate you for hours, just like games like Space Rangers, Freelancer and others. And you don’t need more from a game like this.
Hello friends. My name is Alexander (nickname was Lord_Commander) and I’m an alcoholic, and this is my first post in SG blogs. I suddenly decided to try to tweet something here. The idea appeared very spontaneously, as did most of the text. Therefore, if you can, leave there with tomatoes, if something goes wrong. I’ll be glad.
