Space adventures. Forsaken Portals Review

World Exploration. Gathering resources. Craft. Turn-based battles.

The game is announced for platforms: Windows, Linux.

A simple mission to fly to a new colony turns into a serious test. It turns out that two races of aliens clashed in space (one of them is friendly to us) and now we have to explore dangerous spaces, unblock portals in order to fly anywhere at all. There is a main story quest through which we are unobtrusively led.

The gameplay is an adventure with original turn-based card battles.

We choose one of six heroes to complete, each of which gives small bonuses.

In the first small location we will have a short but informative training. Let’s learn to fly, plot a course, extract resources and fight.

The game world consists of hand-made large levels-systems that have to be explored. They are filled with objects such as stations (of different functionality), resources for extraction and enemies.

In order to get to the next big world you need to find the key to the portal there in the current location.

Almost immediately after finishing the tutorial, we meet a ship of friendly aliens and its captain explains that it turns out that the whole station belongs to us. In fact, this is a hub where you can carry out a bunch of activities.

Our station is functionally very different from others. You can disembark inside it and run through the compartments. Initially there are:

– Console for creating various types of materials and objects.

– Storage. Spacious and expandable.

– Console for creating station modules.

– Reactor. Produces energy needed for crafting.

Additionally, in the future you can install https://formowincasino.co.uk/ several more objects, for example, a worm farm or a 3D printer.

Like every other station, ours provides services for repairing the ship and refueling it, without this we cannot last long in this world.

Alien stations differ in their purpose and appearance. This is expressed in the variety of goods that can be purchased or sold in the appropriate place. There is something like capitals – there is an emphasis on quests, but there is also trade. It is impossible to land on other people’s stations, and interaction occurs through the appropriate interfaces in the form of dialog boxes.

Battles play an important role. They are made in a very original way. During the battle, our ship takes a position opposite the enemy’s and an exchange of blows occurs.

Fights are turn-based and occur as follows (the same principles apply to the enemy ship):

– Each turn the ship generates energy, from 1 unit in the first round to a maximum of 7.

– Each fighter has a deck of cards with weapons and active skills. Guns have protection and damage parameters (they show the strength of the gun before it is destroyed and how much damage it will cause to the enemy when fired).

– Each weapon or skill card costs energy to play. The more it is, the more powerful the gun or skill we can use.

– Each ship has a certain number of weapon slots. We throw gun cards into them, which fall out every turn.

– On the next turn we also place guns, but now we can shoot at the enemy from the guns installed earlier. You need to fire both at enemy guns, in order to destroy them, and at the hull of the enemy ship, in order to win as quickly as possible (if the strength of the hull becomes zero, then this is a loss).

There are five types of ships: corvette, frigate, destroyer, cruiser, battleship. Each class contains several types of starships. As the class increases, the strength of the body and the number of slots for weapons increase.

The ship can be upgraded. There are two ways to do this:

– Passive properties development tree.

– Installing useful modules, for example a scanner that will show the distribution of asteroids with resources throughout the system.

Richly presented craft. The game has several types of resources that can be collected (from asteroids or dead ships) or purchased. These can be used to produce spare parts for trade or further processing. The range is quite wide. In addition, as I wrote above, there are essentially two productions. In one we make improvements for the ship, in the other for the station.

Let’s look at the pros and cons of the game and summarize.

+ Simple but nice graphics.

+ Good music and sound.

+ Large, interesting worlds to explore.

+ Many opportunities for upgrading a starship, a sufficient number of types and classes of ships.

+ Interesting battles. Good turn-based card battle system.

+ Good craft. Many types of resources and what can be made from them.

+ There is Russian localization of the text.

THINGS THAT CAN BE BOTH A PLUS AND A MINUS:

+- The game is extremely monotonous and requires thoughtfulness in your actions when traveling due to the extremely limited fuel supply. I miscalculated a little and will have to fly from the hub again, and they will also issue a fine, like for rescue and towing. Some people might like it, after all, it’s realism. I didn’t like it, I would like to explore the area more actively. The situation improves a little when pumping the ship.

– The interior of our station looks rather poor/empty – white corridors and rooms where you can only interact with control consoles.

Space adventure with a decent amount of content. Interesting world to explore, good turn-based battles. There is some delay in what is happening due to the limited flight radius of the ship at one refueling.

PS: I probably didn’t cover all the aspects, I might have missed something. I will be glad to add/correct the review or answer questions along the way in the comments.
