The other day I finished watching the first season of the historically trashy series Spartak Blood and Sand.Impressions are mixed, at the beginning the series was not very pleasing, but towards the end the author began to spin such an intrigue, in general, the last time I so greedily downloaded series from the internet was only while watching the first season of “Escape”.So what did you like and dislike about the series next, by chance for stop game.ru
Let’s start with the plot, the series has nothing to do with Giovagnoli’s novel. The creators just took the name Spartak and some other personalities who seemed to have dealt with him (Glabbr, Batiatus), and then there is a free variation on the theme
The story begins approximately in the https://babu88casino.co.uk/ hundredth year BC, an ambassador arrives in a small but proud Thracian settlement with a proposal to begin joint military operations against the Getae. No, I’m not against synthetics from Mas Effect, our geth guys are bearded guys in strange suits.Having followed the rule, the enemy of my enemy can help me, the Thracians give the go-ahead and set out on a campaign.Only a good alliance did not work out, the Romans were constantly late with reinforcements, sent the Thracians to the hottest points of the front and generally looked down on the Thracians. The last straw that broke the last straw was the decision of the Roman legate to turn his troops to the west against the Pontic king Mithitrad at a time when the Getae were in the east.Since this was a gross violation of the terms of the treaty, the Thracians started a small rebellion, Glabbre tried to rein them in but was thrown from his horse into the mud.Spartak urgently returns home to his wife, but the family reunion did not last long. The next morning they are overtaken and captured by the Romans, Glabbre reads a long accusatory speech to Spartacus, but instead of executing him on the spot he comes up with a more sophisticated method of revenge, Spartacus is sent to Capua where he had to die in the arena in a battle with four gladiators. But even here Spartak upsets Glabbra, he survives the battle and becomes a public favorite.Realizing that it is unwise to go against the will of the public, Glabbr pesters the offer of Batiatus, the local lonista (director of the gladiator school) and sells him Spartacus in the hope that he will perish in the arena.
But Spartacus is apathetic towards his new profession as a gladiator, because his wife is languishing in captivity of the Romans, at first he only thinks about ways to leave the ludus (gladiator school), thereby irritating Crixus, the local muscleman and permanent champion, and Oenomaus, the gladiator trainer, as a result of which serious quarrels arise between them.Meanwhile, Batiatus begins to look for the reasons for this behavior of Spartacus, firmly convinced that Spartacus is a diamond requiring cutting. However, his wife Lucretia has a completely different opinion, believing that Spartak is unpredictable, creates a lot of problems and it’s generally better to get rid of him.Gradually, Batiatus and Spartacus come to a consensus, Batiatus promises to get information about Spartacus’s wife, and Spartacus promises to stop fooling around and put on a show in the Arena. And soon he is given such a chance; in the city, sweltering from the heat, they decide to organize grandiose games in the hope of pitying the gods so that they will give rain. The highlight of the program should be the duel between him and Crixus against the legendary gladiator Theocles, nicknamed “the shadow of death”.I won’t tell you the plot further because from this moment the most delicious things begin.
First of all, I would like to say that the series is made in the style of the well-known film “300”, so if you liked this film, you can safely download it right from now on.In addition to the style, the creators of the series crammed so much blood, nudity, swearing and sex into it that the first two episodes would be enough for a whole trilogy from Robert Rodriguez, and the previously released “Rome”, which was also previously considered provocative and is completely smoking on the sidelines.Probably the small cable channel Starz, which makes and broadcasts the film, decided in this way to attract viewers to the film, well, at least the male part. Therefore, if you decide to learn the history of Rome with your younger friends using this series, it’s better to show him Rome, in Spartak the 18+ rating is completely justified.
In general, one gets the impression that the authors were so happy about the “adult rating” that they began to insert the notorious blood, swear words and sex without any reason, completely forgetting about the development of the plot. For example, when a person is hit, blood gushes out as if there were not 5 liters in him but all 50, and the genitals of women and men and even gods, various feces there are mentioned in various forms in almost every dialogue and monologue. At first it’s amusing, but already in the third episode you start dreaming about television peaks.Since our series about gladiators contains a lot of fights, they are also made in the style of “300” with rock music with good slowdowns, but again sometimes the camera floods with blood, as for example in the picture below
Around episode 5, the creators came to their senses and began to pay more attention to the plot, introducing various intrigues and sometimes unexpected plot twists. With each episode they all wind up like a spring and shoot sharply in the last episode, which by the way broke the channel’s viewership record.
Now I would like to talk about the disadvantages
In addition to too much blood and foul language, the creators of the series neglected any historicity. If you didn’t sleep during history lessons in middle school, you will find a bunch of blunders, but the series will make connoisseurs of the history of Ancient Rome cry, just like the fact that during battles in the arena, plebeians and patricians stand in the same row, or for example, a lonista deciding the fate of his own gladiator when the crowd votes at the end of the battle, although this should be done by the game manager (the most senior person present in the arena), or at least the fact that Batiatus uses gladiators as bodyguards, or for example one of the gladiators of Barca who was allegedly captured during the fall of Carthage, although it was destroyed 100 years before the events described in the series. But still, the creators of Spartacus did not step on some of the mistakes of other creators of Roman films, for example, Glabbra is called legate (chief of the legion) and not general (in fact, this title was invented by the French already in the 17th century), this also applies to other terms.
And finally, about the actors. You probably thought that since the series is trash, the actors in it play poorly, but this is not entirely true. The role of Batiatus was played by John Hana, a British actor familiar from “The Mummy”; he portrayed the cunning and insidious scoundrel with a bang.Viva Skubizewski, who played the role of Glabbra’s wife, was also pleased; her spoiled and bitchy bitch turned out to be surprisingly believable.Despite the fact that the film is full of little-known actors, they tried better than some Hollywood stars.
RESULT
Before us is a typical male series, a lot of blood, naked girls fights, what else do you need to relax on the couch after a hard day at work???
My rating is 9-/10, if only there were more projects like this and not all sorts of sitcoms and other crap
P.C in the series is played by Lucy Lawles, who plays Xena from the series of the same name, part of the creators from the same
